To keep you up-to-date with all the latest goings-on, we’ve collected the biggest Gazprom Energy news stories from June of this year, including Energy Supplier of the Month plaudits, our Manchester City Council deal, and a think-piece from our very own head of customer optimisation.
At the start of the month, we were featured as Energy Supplier on the Month (p21) by Building and Facilities News, a showcase of the leading lights of the energy industry. Additionally, they spoke to our Head of UK Sales, Stuart Taylor, to talk through our offerings as well as Gazprom Energy’s huge growth since establishment.
Of this, Stuart said: “We are incredibly proud of our number one position, and are working hard every day to maintain it. By offering better-researched contracts, easier management solutions, and constantly improving our customer service, we hope to maintain our position and grow our reach”.
Energy Management Magazine and Energy Manager both reported on our £3.6m deal with Manchester City Council which will see us supply and manage gas to over 350 council sites for a one-year period. The contract will see significant savings on the council’s energy bills, improve access to regular consumption data via automated meter reading, and will help energy services to enable efficient and accurate management of future expenditure.
It comes as a result of our price and service scoring higher than other energy providers in a tender process carried out by the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). In addition, we also scored highly on social value, thanks in part to our apprenticeship scheme contributing to the local economy.
Amid the recent heatwave, it’s easy to forget that we endured adverse weather conditions earlier this year. And it wasn’t just the public who had to beat the blustery conditions and sub-zero temperatures – energy businesses felt the cold snap too. IPE Search sat down with our head of customer optimisation, Phil Ivers, to talk preparing for future seasonal storms in the energy market.
Phil touched on hedging gas in advance using flexible purchasing contracts, the closure of Rough, the UK’s largest gas storage facility, and our reliance on gas from outside the UK.

Lastly, we were featured in a fantastic 6-page spread by Energy Digital as part of an interview with Dean Laurent, Arcadia’s Purchasing Controller (who we provide energy for), to talk about how moving to a flexible purchasing contract has helped Arcadia to enhance its energy strategy. Dean comments on his relationship with Gazprom Energy, specifically on how working with us has enabled greater flexibility and further opportunities for negotiation.
