Please tell us a bit about your professional background, what attracted you to working at Gazprom Energy, and how long you’ve been with the business.
I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology in 2017 and started working in the Energy Procurement Desk (EPD) team in October. Before that, I worked in the operations side of the business during summers while studying at university.
Working in the EPD team has given me the opportunity to work in a more analytic role with exposure to the gas and power markets across Europe.
What is your position within the team, and what does your role involve day-to-day?
My role in the EPD team is Operations & Pricing Analyst. It involves setting commodity costs such as gas prices and risk premiums for our UK, Dutch and French sales teams, as well as our shipping customers.
What makes Gazprom Energy different to other business energy suppliers?
I think the fact that we are much younger than many competitors allows us to be a closer-knit group of people, who are all determined to get to the top and stay there.
Additionally, being part of a global energy group enables us to introduce products that our competitors cannot – our strategic energy management tool, InSight, being a great example of this.
What do you find enjoyable and satisfying about your role within the business?
I really enjoy being up to date with world news and events, and knowing how they will impact the energy markets in multiple countries; it is very satisfying to be able to analyse global news and know what it will mean for gas and oil prices.
What skills has your role enabled you to develop, and how do you put these into practice to benefit our customers?
My time on the EPD team has allowed a great insight into the energy sector, enabling me to vastly improve my knowledge. We are always driving for efficiency and this has allowed me to improve my process enhancement skills also.
